Introduction
Zombie Games are different : they are shooters, RPGs, and interactive films, and they are not only scary, but also funny. They all have one thing in common – crowds of the walking dead who seek to eat the brains of the main character and the people around him. However, there are exceptions: in some games you yourself are the undead.
1. Dying Light
Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One.
An action game with an open world , a bunch of customizable melee weapons and a cooperative mode for four people. On your own, you explore a huge city affected by a dangerous virus. Your hero is fluent in parkour techniques, so he can easily climb onto the roof of almost any building and dashingly jumps over obstacles.
Scattered throughout the map are story and side quests, during which you need to constantly beware of the living dead. They are everywhere, and some of them are especially dangerous. Therefore, you have to act tactically: somewhere set the crowd on fire, somewhere lead the zombies into a puddle with exposed electrical wires, and somewhere just run away.
2. Project Zomboid
Platforms: PC.
This seemingly simple game with pixel graphics is one of the most ambitious, and at the same time merciless zombie apocalypse simulators. A helicopter will not come for you and an armored car will not come for you, if you manage to hold out long enough, death awaits you in any case.
But you can extend your existence for several days, or even more, by building a fortification or even creating a farm. At the same time, you can survive both alone and in multiplayer mode with other players.
3.Resident Evil HD Remaster
Platforms: PC, PlayStation 3
A modernized version of one of the main horror films in the history of video games. The action takes place in a large mansion, full of various rooms, including secret ones. You have to solve puzzles and look for keys that only fit certain doors.
The house is, of course, inhabited by the walking dead. They are slow, but dangerous: just a couple of hits, and you need to load the game again. And they must be finished off, otherwise a seemingly lifeless corpse may rise at the most inopportune moment. For example, when there is only one cartridge left in the magazine, but you saved it a long time ago.
4.Left 4 Dead 2
Platforms: PC, Xbox 360, Xbox One.
A cooperative shooter that, over the course of about ten campaigns, parodies various horror films from the world of cinema. There is no way you can survive alone: you need to work coherently, fighting off not only ordinary zombies, but also special zombies. A jumping hunter or a powerful brute can kill you in an instant if your partner doesn’t help.
But Left 4 Dead 2’s full potential is revealed in the “Battle” mode. In it you can play not only as people, but also as infected, who must coordinate their attacks in order to inflict maximum damage on the survivors and prevent them from reaching the shelter.
5. The Walking Dead: The Game
Platforms: PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Xbox 360, Xbox One, iOS, Android.
An adventure series in the famous universe, the goal of which is to show the zombie apocalypse from the point of view of ordinary people, most often unable to kill more than a couple of walkers. You will have to make more than one difficult decision while watching how the psychological situation in the group of united survivors is heating up. This project also has one of the most touching endings in the history of video games .
6. Stubbs the Zombie
Platforms: PC, Xbox.
A third-person action game set in the futuristic city of Punchbowl, featuring flying cars, laser weapons, and robots. You play as Stubbs, a man resurrected after being killed. His goal is to destroy the city, kill as many people as possible, and also restore his romantic relationship with his lover.
Since this is a humorous game, what happens in it defies standard logic. You can eat brains to restore health and turn locals into zombies to create an army of the undead. Weapons include severed hands, one’s own pancreas and even the head.
Unfortunately, the game is not on Steam or GOG, so you’ll have to look for it in other places.
7. Plants vs. Zombies 2: It’s About Time
Platforms: iOS, Android.
A colorful project in the Tower Defense genre, in which you need to defend the human habitation from the undead, differing in speed and abilities. The role of defense is played by plants that can attack enemies in every possible way and prevent them from passing further.
The game has 11 unique worlds – from Ancient Egypt to space. Movement in time and space is due to the fact that the player’s neighbor, Crazy Dave, eats an incredibly tasty taco and goes back in time to enjoy it again.
Unlike the first part, Plants vs. Zombies 2 is a free-to-play game with currency that can be purchased with real money. Due to this, the project has many special abilities that make the gameplay more diverse.
8. They Are Billions
Platforms: PC.
In this strategy, one single zombie can ruin all your best-laid plans. You need to survive waves of the dead one after another, which can gather into truly gigantic crowds.
To prepare, you must mine resources in the surrounding areas and build the strongest possible defenses. But you need to be careful: if through negligence you let a walker into the building, he will infect its inhabitants and all your efforts will go down the drain.
