Introduction
Anything in this world is inspired by something. Games are one of them. Reading Books have always been a major hobby of the people. People loved to read books. So, that’s why some developers inspired by books and made games from them . Here are 7 best games that were inspired by books.
1. Assassin’s Creed
When creating the first part of the stealth action franchise, the developers were inspired by the book “Alamut” by Vladimir Bartol. It tells the story of the fortress of the same name.
One day, Alamut was besieged by the Turks, and its owner, the military leader Hasan ibn Sabbah, ordered one of his subordinates to kill himself and another to throw himself off a cliff to intimidate his enemies.
2. Enslaved: Odyssey To The West
Enslaved: Odyssey To The West is an action game from the creators of DmC and Hellblade. In the story, the main characters are the huge warrior Monkey and the hacker girl Tripitaka – one of the few people who survived the next world war. Together they go in search of a home through lands inhabited by evil robots.
In many aspects of the game – from the name to individual plot events and characters – it is clear that the authors of Enslaved took the story of “Journey to the West” as a basis. This is a Chinese fantasy-satirical novel of the 16th century about how a monk reached India in the company of a half-man, half-pig, a monkey king and a dragon horse.
Enslaved doesn’t have any unusual creatures, but like the original, it does have some absurd humor and a general sense of exciting adventure.
3. Spec Ops: The Line
Spec Ops: The Line centers on three special forces soldiers who arrive in sandstorm-ravaged Dubai to rescue stranded military personnel from rebels and separatists.
As the story progresses, the villains and heroes switch places several times, and the game itself is dedicated to the horrors of war and their impact on people.
The shooter’s script largely follows the 1899 book “Heart of Darkness” and the film “Apocalypse Now” based on it. All three works tell the story of how, under certain conditions, a person can be captured by primitive instincts – the desire to cause suffering and kill.
4. BioShock
BioShock is a shooter game set in the underwater city of Rapture. Businessman Andrew Ryan built it for the most talented and intelligent people on the planet: scientists, artists, musicians and artists.
There were almost no laws or rules in the city – everyone was his own judge, and no one had responsibilities. But something went wrong, and over the years, the inhabitants of Rapture turned from bohemians into crazy drug addicts and psychopaths.
Delight is the embodiment of the ideas of the writer Ayn Rand, set out, for example, in the book Atlas Shrugged. She proposed the philosophy of Objectivism, according to which no person owes anything to anyone except himself. In the game, the developers elevated these principles to absolutes and showed that such an ideology can only lead to the decline of society.
5. Mount & Blade
In the medieval action RPG Mount & Blade, the player takes on the role of a military commander and travels between several states. He can plunder or liberate villages, besiege castles and build relationships with vassals.
When creating the With Fire & Sword add-on, the developers took as a basis the novel by the Polish writer Henryk Sienkiewicz “With Fire and Sword,” dedicated to the uprisings of Bohdan Khmelnytsky against the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth in the mid-17th century.
The player can either exactly repeat historical events or rewrite them. For example, suppress the Khmelnitsky uprising while playing as Poland. Or become the ruler of the Muscovite kingdom by staging a coup.
6. The Binding of Isaac
The Binding of Isaac is a roguelike in which the player must explore a procedurally generated world, kill bosses and normal enemies, and avoid traps.
Looking at the eerie cartoon style of the game, it is difficult to imagine that it has anything to do with the Bible. However, in fact, the plot of the action is inspired by the Old Testament story about Abraham, who had to kill his son Isaac to prove his loyalty to God.
Only in the game, the angel does not save Isaac, and so he has to escape. And not from the father, but from the distraught mother.
7. Dynasty Warriors
The Dynasty Warriors series of slasher films is known primarily for its large-scale battles, during which the hero, side by side with his army, fights dozens of opponents using melee weapons and magical abilities.
The plots of the games in the series are based on the classic novel “The Three Kingdoms,” which tells about the internecine wars in China in the 3rd century.
The project developers treated the original source very freely – they introduced fantasy elements and dozens of fictional characters. So the plot lost some of its historicity, but it became much richer. The authors even managed to stretch the adventure into nine games and several spin-offs.
